Emily Sears – Joanne Holt -Caitlin Hılxx – Sarah Hilton – Kirsty Lee – Annelise Jorgensen – Ildiko Ferenczi – Kandy_-_January_2015
When we introduced Emily Sears to the readers of Kandy in May 2012 we led with the tagline “Redefining Sexy”. Well, it appears Emily is back at it again updating what it means to be sexy for a new generation, millennials. Much as Madonna evolved her appeal over the decades of the 8o’s, 90′ and oo’s to stay relevant, Emily has evolved her appeal to fans and brands by staying at the forefront of emerging media tools.
Emily, this is your third Kandy cover. What was different this time around compared to your first two covers, besides the cold bath water of course? After the success of my first two covers, I was honored that I was given some input into the type of shoot I wanted to do. I was really touched for that opportunity. Now, I feel like part of the family which is incredible as we all watch this publication grow.
When we were discussing the theme of your shoot you were very adamant about doing something different than a typical editorial men’s magazine shoot which, as our readers too well know, is a model in lingerie lying in a bed or on a beach in a bikini. What was the inspiration behind this shoot? The inspiration for this shoot was classic pin up calendars and go’s Pam Anderson. Just good old-fashioned classic sexy. A classic touch but with a modern feel. It makes a statement as to what Kandy is … bringing the gentleman’s sexy into the modern technological age.
Did we push the envelope enough? I’ve shot with Mario previously, and again I feel so close to the team now that I really felt comfortable enough to push myself to my limit and boundaries. When you trust your crew it gives you the ability as a model to take a leap of faith, try new poses, show a little more, knowing your team has got you and will make sure it comes across right. It’s the Kandy readers who benefit the most …
Your career has been on a rocket path since that very first Kandy cove” in May 2012. And, we’ve grown immensely in popularity as well since. What has been sour secret to success? I feel the duality of both mine and Kandys’ success is the shared vision of taking the feel of the classics with the vision of the future. Thinking outside the box, knowing without question who you are and what you want to deliver, but finding new ways to make new types of people see what you see. I think it’s the reason the relationship between me and Kandy is so strong. That and all the laughs along the way. I genuinely care for the staff of this magazine.
In the urban streetwear market, your face is as popular as some of the hrands. How did you carve out a niche in this booming apparel industry? I had a very corporate start into modeling; my first job was as a contract girl to the highest selling men’s publication in Australia. I can’t express my gratitude towards those years for teaching me to be a constant professional and know the needs of a publication as a whole and how I can best present that. When I came to LA I was out of my depth as there wasn’t an equivalent here to what I had been doing at home so going to castings I felt too curvy for the girl next door jobs and too girl next door for the curvy jobs. I sat down with myself to strategize as I wasn’t making ends meet and came up with a plan based upon the fact that a teenage boy living at home will wear a hoody but so will any man from a sports fan to a rapper. It made me realize a new way to tap into my audience was through the clothes they wear.

Kandy girl Laurie Young advised us to ‘check out’ Annelise on Instagram. Little did we know, as we were checking out Annelise, she was checking us out as well and she filled our Inbox with these beautiful images to share with the readers of Kandy and left us wondering if Annelise is a snow bunny or beach bunny? What say you Kandy readers?
Strange how the universe operates sometimes. Kirsty-Lee first appeared in Kandy in 2012, in the same issue as Emily’s first Kandy cover. Now, completely random, she is back for a second helping of Kandy in Emily’s third Kandy cover. We don’t know if the two Aussie models know each other, even though they are both from Melbourne, Australia, but they certainly share a Kandy connection.
If your ship was sinking and your lifeboat only had room for you and one other person, and you had to choose between the tall, dark and handsome guy or the lean, geeky and smart guy, who would you choose? I would definitely choose geeky and smart because he will laiow how to survive on the island and catch me food & find water, looks only go so far.
If you were ever shipwrecked, what is the ONE item you absolutely could not live without? My phone, so at least I could capture my shipwrecked moments and selfies with the animals on the island and pray for reception. haha
If you could choose a shipwreclanate (is that even a word), who would it be? Definitely my mum, she’s my best friend and we would have a laugh together. Plus, she’s a great cook and knows how to make me smile no matter the situation!
If your cruise ship was commandeered by pirates and you had to choose between life as a pirate or marooned on an island, which would you choose? I would be a pirate and sail the seas causing trouble … hehe

I’m a European mixture, mainly Hungarian. I’m a first generation Canadian that was born in the most beautiful city in the world, Vancouver!
What is the heritage of your name? It doesn’t seem like a typical Canadian name. Haaaa. I get that question a lot! Ildiko is a historical Hungarian name.
Does it have any special meaning in Hungarian? Check this out! Not only does the name “Ildiko” have a rad meaning, Ildiko was also the name of “Attila The Huns” gothic princess bride!
Now here is the rad part! “Ildiko” means “fighter”, “fierce warrior”!!! From a young age I knew I had to live up to such a powerful name. My mom told me she chose a very special name that will define the kind of person I will be throughout my life. At times I felt like throwing in the towel when things got tough, but with a name like “Ildiko” I knew when life threw punches and pushed me down I had to fight back and get up! Giving up is NOT an option for me. PERIOD! … And through this crazy journey of mine, my name had a tremendous influence on me. Dreams don’t just happen, we create them! And I’m so grateful for my name.
Have you ever been to Hungary? If so, what city or town was your favorite and why? I have! I go every couple of years. I love Hungary! It is rich with history and surrounded by “fountains of youth”, the famous healing springs.
My favorite place to visit in Hungary is Budapest! I love the people, the sights, the dining, the history, and the spas. I fall in love with the city every time I go there.
Why the nickname “Spicy Little Pepper”? Oh hahaha. That’s an interesting story. Ok here it goes. When I was three years old I started Hungarian folk dancing halfway through the year. Only a few months in, it was time for the dance groups’ big yearly performance. I wanted so desperately to preform “the pillow dance” in the show! I begged and begged to be included. After some persuading, I was performing on stage with the bigger and older kids on the big night! Near the end of our number I made a rather large error in my steps and decided to wing it. The audience laughed and clapped. As the other kids bowed and excited the stage I stayed as the audience clapped and laughed harder. After taking this in, I looked at the audience in their eyes, wound back my pillow and hurled it as hard as I could at the crowd. Satisfied with my action, I pranced off stage with my head held high.
Back stage my mom ran to me, grabbed me by the shoulders and asked me why I did that. I told her “Mommy!!! They laughed at me because I made a mistake!” She laughed and explained it was because I was so cute and stole the show with my spicy little attitude. After that night I acquired the nickname csipos Ids paprika, “spicy little pepper” after the famous Hungarian spicy pepper used to cook with. The peppers are little but they have such a powerful punch, just like me!
